Spore trap analysis
Mold Air Sampling in Anaheim, CA
Air sampling draws a measured volume of air through a spore trap cassette, capturing airborne particles that a laboratory then counts and identifies. Because mold spores exist everywhere outdoors, an outdoor sample is collected as a baseline at the same visit.
Comparing indoor results with the outdoor baseline is what makes air sampling meaningful — it shows whether a building has an indoor source contributing to what you breathe.
How samples are collected
- A calibrated pump draws a set volume of air through a spore trap
- Samples are placed at breathing height in rooms of concern
- An outdoor baseline sample is collected at the same visit
- Location, time, and conditions are recorded for each sample
- Samples are sealed and sent under chain of custody
The process
How air sampling works
- 01
Sample planning
Rooms are selected based on complaints, inspection findings, and building layout.
- 02
Outdoor baseline
An outdoor sample is taken to reflect current local conditions.
- 03
Indoor sampling
Samples are collected in each selected location with doors and windows kept as instructed.
- 04
Lab analysis
An independent lab identifies spore types and calculates concentrations.
Report & lab details
Reading an air sample report
Results are expressed as spores per cubic meter of air for each mold type identified. The report places every indoor location next to the outdoor baseline.
Key things we explain: whether indoor totals exceed outdoor, whether water-damage indicator types appear indoors but not outdoors, and how results align with what was seen during the inspection.
FAQ
Air Sampling questions
Why do you need an outdoor sample?
Outdoor spore levels change with weather and season. The outdoor sample shows what is normal at that moment so indoor results can be interpreted fairly.
Can air sampling find hidden mold?
It can indicate an indoor source, but it does not pinpoint location. Moisture mapping and wall cavity sampling help narrow down where growth is.
What should I avoid before sampling?
Avoid heavy cleaning, running air purifiers, or opening windows right before the visit. We will provide instructions when you book.
